ICTP Master of Advanced Studies Scholarships for Developing Countries in Italy, 2018

The ICTP and the University of Trieste are applying for scholarships for the Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics (MMP), this is a two-year training program. Students from developing countries can apply.

The Master’s program is designed to enable promising young physicists or related subjects (mainly from low- and middle-income countries) to undertake theoretical and clinical continuing education studies in order to recognize candidates as clinical medical physicists in their home countries.

The International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) of Abdus Salam is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences, established under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Scholarship Description:

  • Deadline: April 22, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Master’s degree program.
  • Subject: Scholarships are awarded to complete a two-year master’s degree in medical physics.
  • Scholarship: Qualified candidates can attend the course at their own expense.

A limited number of full or partial scholarships will be awarded to successful candidates from developing countries, thanks to IAEA, TWAS and ICTP support. The full support includes travel expenses, registration fees and a monthly scholarship of 900 euros in the first year and 1000 euros in the second year (or a reduced amount if the accommodation is provided).

Partial support can be in the form of:

Half support: travel, registration fees and a monthly scholarship of 450 euros in the first and 500 in the second year
Or only travel and registration fees.
Nationality: Students from developing countries can apply.
Number of Scholarships: The maximum number of approved students is 30.

Admission Requirements: To participate in this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

The minimum qualification for applicants is a degree equivalent to an MSc in Physics or related fields. The selection of candidates depends on their performance, research activity and professional experience in this field. Adequate English language skills are required. The Master’s program is open to young (typically under 30) qualified graduates from United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA countries. Candidates who have obtained their degrees outside Italy must receive the “Dichiarazione di valore” from the Italian Embassy in their country and confirm that their curriculum corresponds to the Italian “Laurea specialistica”. Curriculum studiorum should include 12 years of primary and secondary education and a university degree equivalent to the Italian “Laurea specialistica” – a university degree program that allows participation in a PhD program in his country.

English language requirements: Applicants must speak fluent English.

Persons wishing to apply for the Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics must complete the online application form.

Applicants must submit a CV, transcript of graduation and may also submit a letter of recommendation from senior scientists who are familiar with the candidate. Scientists making recommendations should indicate if they have contacts in the ICTP.
