Chinese government scholarships for international students initiated to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and exchange in politics, business, culture, education and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has launched a series of scholarship programs to promote international students, teachers and scholars research at Chinese universities. The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), mandated by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and administration of scholarship programs of the Chinese Government. 279 designated Chinese universities offer a variety of academic programs in science, technology, agriculture, medicine, law, economics, management, education, humanities, philosophy, history and art for scholarship holders of all levels.

Application Time

Usually from January to April every year

Application Process:

Step 1 – Apply to the transit authorities for CGS opportunity;
Step 2 – Apply for the pre-registration letter at your target university, which is recommended by the transit authorities as an eligible candidate (you will receive a prize for the CGS candidate);
Step 3 – Complete the online application process at CSC Online Application System for international students (visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua and click on “Application Online” to log in), send online The completed Chinese Government Scholarship application form and print a copy. For instructions on the CSC online application system for international students and the agency number, you should contact the authorities responsible for studying abroad.
Step 4 – Submit all your application documents to the shipping authorities before the application deadline.

CSC will send the registration documents to the transit authorities before 31 July. The transit authorities send the admission documents (Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201)) to fellows.

Agency Number

Application documents (in duplicate)

1. Chinese Government scholarship application form (in Chinese or English);
2. Unofficial highest diploma (photocopy);
Future graduates must present an official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected completion date. Documents in languages ​​other than Chinese or English must be provided with notarized Chinese or English translations.
3. Academic transcripts (written in Chinese or English);
Transcripts in languages ​​other than Chinese or English must be provided with notarized Chinese or English translations.
4. A curriculum or research proposal (written in Chinese or English);
This should be at least 200 words for students, 500 words for non-students and 800 words for students.
5. Two letters of recommendation (in Chinese or English);
Applicants for the Research Training Groups or Senior Fellows’ Programs must submit two letters of recommendation signed by a professor or an associate professor.
6. A CD with own works (only required for art students);
Applicants for music studies are asked to submit a CD with their own musical works. Applicants for the visual arts must submit a CD of their own works, which includes two sketches, two color images and two other works.
7. Valid documents of your guardians in China (only required for applicants under the age of 18);
8. For a Physical Examination Form (photocopy), only for applicants who are planning to stay in China for more than 6 months can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua; Physical Examinations must include all items listed in the form for the study of the foreigner. Incomplete forms or forms without signature of the attending physician or the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant shall be invalidated. Your physical examination plan as a result is only for 6 Months valid.
9. The copy of the pre-registration letter from the designated Chinese university (if available);
10. The copy of the HSK certificate (if available).
All documents should be bound together in the upper left corner in the order of 6.1 to 6.10.

You should submit TWO sets of bound documents.
No application documents will be returned.

Full scholarship covers:

1. Disclaimer;

2.Accommodation: free university dorm or accommodation subsidy;
If the host university requires students to live on campus, the university will accept scholarship holders in the university dormitory (usually twin rooms); If the host university allows students to live off campus, the university will provide monthly / quarterly housing fees:
Undergraduate students / master students / general scholars: CNY 700 per month;
Doctoral students / senior scientists: CNY 1000 per month.

3.Stipend:
Students: CNY 2,500 per month;
Master students / general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;
Doctoral students / senior scientists: CNY 3,500 per month.
Scholarship holders receive scholarships from their host university every month during the scholarship period.
Students registering before the 15th of the month (including the 15th) will receive the full scholarship of that month. Those who sign up after the 15th of the month will receive half of the scholarship this month.
If a registered student stays outside China for more than 15 days (excluding school holidays), his scholarship will be suspended during his departure.
